Project 2 Digital Audio - Wende Jones

Final Edit Project 2 - Wende Jones
00:00 / 00:00

Introduction and Learning Objectives

In this project I am using the audio recording as the introduction to the course. It is just a short blip to capture their attention and create some interest in the activity. I give just a short amount of instruction so they will know to go to the Goosechase game which will give more detailed instructions but they will also know that they are going to have a rubric in which to use to grade themselves so they will need to pay attention as they play.

The recording is four tracks. One stereo; the piano, and two separate mono tracks.

Learning Objective: After viewing the classroom management website, teachers will assess their classroom management using an assessment rubric.

Licensing

The piano music is "Starlight" by Jim Brickman played by Wende Jones (myself)

Children's voices: students of Reeds Spring Early Ed Center. Parent permission on file at Reeds Spring School District. Recorded by Wende Jones

Voice over: Wende Jones

Techniques

I created four tracks. I used the following techniques.

Track 1 Children's voices:

  • fade in

  • fade out

  • moved to set location in recording

Track 2 and 3 Piano

  • chorus effect

  • reverb effect

  • fade in

  • fade out

  • cut beginning and ending

  • changed volume on certain sections

Track 4 Voice Over

  • moved to set location in recording

Reflection

I have a new appreciation for sound engineers, like my husband. I am no stranger to recording, I am however normally the one with the mic. My husband is a studio engineer so this project made him sit back and try not to help me, which was hard for him. I found I could never get a clear quiet background without being in a studio, which was not available to me. So I needed to lower my standards of quality and focus on the objective. I also found it difficult to find an app on my iPad that would allow me to record on it and then transfer the files over to my computer to use on Audition. Garageband worked if you are looking for one. I was able to upload the file to my iCloud and transfer it that way.

I believe audio is a great tool for teachers. I can use it to tell stories for students to read along with, I can make audio directions for students that don't read. I can create fun activities for my teachers and record ideas for them or even record the teachers and let them to review how they are doing.

For this objective I am excited that I can use this recording to jumpstart the course that my teachers will be doing by sharing this quick audio with them and providing the link to the Goosechase game they will be playing for our training day. I believe it will get them excited to play and help them become better teachers.
