Project 3: Digital Video

Screen shot of tracks and video editing

Introduction and Learning Objective

My video project is a how to for classroom management. It is geared toward first year teachers but is also a review for all teachers. The video shows some main things teachers need to have in place for the first day of school and gives some suggestions to use. It also leads teachers to start thinking about what else they need to have in place for good classroom management.

This project has been the most fun for me because I was able to see how my pictures, audio and now video work together to create something useful and fun. I created it in iMovie which was easier for me, because I didn't have to transfer information from my iPad to my computer to edit it.

Objective:

After viewing the video, teachers will use a rubric to self assess their classroom management

Licensing

Music: "Playful" and "News" from iMovie audio library- Royalty free

Students: Reeds Spring Early Education Center students, permission on file at Reeds Spring School District

All other video, audio, and photography are the creation of Wende Jones

Reflection

I believe my video will be very useful in supporting my objective. I have been able to connect with the viewers by putting myself in their shoes of trying to quickly be prepared for the coming school year. I have given examples visually with pictures and text. I have also used music to set the mood and used verbal instructions and support to help the viewer know what is expected and that I am there to help.

I believe this video will be beneficial to my final project.  I may use part or all of it and continue to work on a specific part of classroom management such as the morning routine.

I enjoyed making the video as I have been able to use things I have learned in both audio and photography to create a better end result than some of my previous creations using iMovie. The different techniques make a world of difference in creating a more professional project. I can see how using video in the classroom can be beneficial to both the teacher and the students. It is a great communication tool that a student can return to to watch the instructor explain and show as many times as is needed. The teacher can also use video as a way to share information with parents and show them how their student is doing in class. If students are older, they can show what they have learned through the use of creating their own video that can be then shared with other students. The possibilities of using videos in the classroom is only limited by your imagination.
